Middle East : "The crisis is moral, then it is the policy"

Prof. George Chaya, a political analyst international expert on Middle East

It is true that there is an Arab-Israeli conflict-for 60 years, but there is not where lie the main proceedings. The millions of human beings who died in the Iran-Iraq war had nothing to do with Israel . All disputes related to the map of the Middle East , no matter what you may read or hear in the media world, are not, nor have they been the focus of the derivations of this long-standing conflict in the upset regional scenario.

No one well-intentioned and that worships the truth can deny that mass killings in Sudan was the Islamist regime who slaughter their citizens and black Christians who were not there any presence of any of the Imperial criticized and repudiated by so fashion media. The recent assassination of former Prime Minister Bhutto was committed by a suicidal jihadist came not from Paris , Washington or Tel Aviv. The brutal attacks of the past month in Algeria against the offices of the UN have nothing to do with the West or with Israel , contrary to this, were claimed by Al-Qaeda Maghreb, an arm of Al Qaeda Iraq .

Saddam Hussein-whose execution at the request of a Shiite Iraqi court has just one year non-invaded Kuwait , nor murdered his own people because of Israel . The late Syrian President Haffez al-Assad failed to meet orders from Washington, Moscow , Tel Aviv or Paris when repressed and extermination in a week to thousands of its citizens in the city of Hamma , Syria . The Taliban terrorism in Afghanistan and civil war broke out there, blasting of the Buddhas and many other disasters in that country were not ordered or carried out by Israel , Aznar, Bush, Blair and Sarkozy for misfortune and frustration of some Western media press it would have liked.

The core problem is that this scenario is absolutely dysfunctional under any standard of the modern world, and although he had been an independent Palestinian State had existed for the past 60 years. Although it is an undeniable fact that almost all people in the region blame for this situation to the U.S. , Israel , to Western civilization, to Christianity, Buddhism, everyone and everything except themselves.

The truth is that the events of recent years developed four situations emerging that have always existed but never as rampant as in the current regional crisis. Namely:

I) The first element is the murder suicide. The crimes are not a suicidal action again but lately have been popularized. This represents a very powerful psychological weapon. And although September 11 was quantitatively less lethal than many earthquakes and natural disasters have killed Saddam or a monthly number of people greater than that of all who died from suicide murders since the occupation of Iraq by the Coalition. The attack by a suicide bomber creates big headlines, is spectacular and with the help of hysterical media coverage, can undermine democratic governments. But in reality the murder through a massive suicide had nothing to do with true fanatic religious beliefs; there are other factors behind this action, money, power, racial hatred between them. No Muslim spiritual leader has never flown himself. No son of Arab political or religious leader has done. Neither has you waited to see you someday.

II) A second aspect is the speech, "the words", more precisely lies. Words can cause destruction. Instigating the bloodshed, murder people. Often the discussion about the conduct of politicians and diplomats and that they inevitably have to lie in their professional duties. But the rules of politics and diplomacy are quite different compared with the level of incitement and deliberate lies unequivocally that has reached unbelievable levels in the regional scenario that mean. You will be surprised, but there is an incredible number of people in the Arab world who watch TV and Al Jazzira believe that September 11th never happened, or who was an American provocation or worse, that the attack on July 18, 1994 in the Jewish Mutual-Ami-Buenos Aires, Argentina, which killed more than 80 people was a Jewish-Zionist plot, as disclosed in recent weeks Al Manar TV.

III) The third element is economic. Large quantities of petrodollars and Euros from the EU <de that the terrorists laugh and consider a simple office subsidies> could have solved many social problems, educational and health in this part of the dysfunctional world, but they are channeled to militant organizations claiming the death and murder as a means of political struggle.

IV) A fourth and final appearance of conflict is the complete breakdown of all laws of the civilized world. The Western world believes on democracy, the rule of law and the rule of international law, human rights and free press. In this region the facts show that there are habits that have become outdated and naive if they ever had. Respect sites and religious symbols, not using ambulances and hospitals for acts of war and not using civilians and children as shields or human bombs. In this aspect, never in history had such contempt for human life as we see now.

In other words, suppose that the territorial concessions are the key to progress in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in 2008 is completely untrue. The reality is that this is the face of a rising jihadist ideology and convinced that leads a battle against Israel and the infidel west extended the Maghreb and projected to Al Andaluz and beyond. In this context, any territorial concession as well as others, are made unilaterally or through agreements reinforce the belief that Israel jihadists and the West are weak and can be conquered by military means. In fact these concessions not only do not solve the centrality of the conflict but what compounded. Most Israelis supported the unilateral withdrawals from Lebanon in 2000 and Gaza in 2005, believed, <wrong> to accept the territorial claims negate the cause of controversial and the result was that the reactions of Hezbollah and Hamas clearly showed that the central motif of the conflict in the region is not territorial but ideological.

Many believe that the cause of the problem is the occupation. Often in the West believes that occupation means the occupied territories after the Six-Day War of 1967. When actually, the problem is not cyclical return to the borders established by the partition, but the jihadist leaders have not yet accepted any variable, and will not accept never recognize the State of Israel. West believe that economic development is the basis and starting point to neutralize nationalist and religious feelings, that this will bring peace and security. To those who believe that, I would say that one can be well thought out but "not naive".

To the extent that the international community to condemn Israel and abandon the weak but regional emerging democracies such as Iraq and Lebanon instead of isolating those countries strongly financiers and exporters of jihadist ideology and terrorist activities, "neither the West nor Democracies can win.”

The victory of democracy and peace in the region does not depend solely on resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as wrongly claimed in how much you want to develop summit <this is an important issue, it is true, but one more of many of the region >.

The solution goes further in this matter and relates to the imposition of strong policies and unambiguous moral clarity.
